After the first plane was built by the Wright brothers, more and more people began developing there own flying machines. But they weren't as popular until a single variable came into play; war. The first fighter plane was implemented in 1914, WWI. The French and the British were the first to get there hands on the new airplanes, and they nicknamed the planes "observers", because of the fact that you can see the whole battlefield from a birds eye view.
After the wars, planes were looked into for transportation. This also led to mass production and the modern airplanes we have now.
